Driving into the inferno

This is what it looked like on monday morning as I drove from Huntington Beach into Irvine. In HB we pretty much had clear skies, but as I approached Costa Mesa and Irvine, the skies began to darken due to the smoke from the fires. It was so bad on monday that I had a difficult time breathing. The air quality was something like 500% above the acceptable levels of pollutants.

So Cal is Burning

I couldn't believe how much smoke and ash these fires could create. Right now we're being smoked out and it's extremely hot here in Southern California. You can see from this satellite picture all the areas currently burning. Thousands of people are being evacuated and it almost feels like a ghost town here in Irvine.

There's a fire right down the road from my office and some of the freeways are shut down.

When I drove into work on Monday, I could see the dark clouds of smoke looming over Irvine. But I didn't know how bad it was until I got to my office and I literally couldn't breathe.

I hope all this passes soon.

Ultrasound of Baby

Here's our baby at 19 weeks. It's a boy! While we were doing the ultrasound, the technician looked at us and asked if we wanted to know. Well she asked after a few minutes of performing the ultrasound and I already noticed that it was a boy.

It's sort of surreal at the moment to know that I'll be responsible for another human being's life and wellbeing. Well, we got some books from my cousin on the pregnancy process and what to expect. It's all a little overwhelming at the moment, but very exciting.
