Aunty Genoa Keawe has passed away. A true Hawaiian Musical legend famous for her unique falsetto and soft demeanor she will truly be missed by all. She was 89.
Almost any musician in Hawai`i will tell you some story about "Aunty Genoa," she being an iconic legend within the music community and Hawaiian community as well. When she got up to sing, you sat down to listen. I remember when I was growing up listening to KCCN 1420 AM with my grandfather and hearing Aunty Genoa sing. I was mesmerized by her ability to hold a single note for an extended period of time. I will always remember her singing 'Alika' strumming her `ukulele and touching the hearts of her listeners.
